One hell of a week

OK....so I am trying to catch up on my blogging, but it is hard! I will try to soon tho

March 19th-27th

Went to Breast feeding bunch (support group for breast feeding) It is a very helpful group.. We usually sit in a circle and everyone goes around and says who they are, who their child is, how old, any issues you are having and anything new they have done since the last time you came. We support each other and the Lactation nurse helps us too. I was telling the group I was having issues with breast feeding, pumping and supplementing and Betsy (the lactation nurse) asked me why I was doing that to myself! It is very time consuming! Now mind you had already figured out this myself, but I was being stubborn! I felt like all I was doing was pumping, breast feeding and feeding. I switched this day to almost exclusive breast feeding...what a difference! Jillian slept better, I slept more and wasn't so freaking tired. She was getting fed every 4 hours instead of 2-3. This weekend I decided to have a Kahlua and cream tho. I took a few sips and felt the effect. Man I a light-weight! The Hubby felt it too, so maybe I made them too strong. I thought I was going to have to pump and dump, but you don't have to do that. Once you don't feel the effect it is out of your system. So I just gave her formula and then fed her later. Saturday we went and looked for a fridge ours went out! Plus had a funeral. It has been a rough week and 1/2! We missed a funeral for one of Bills co-workers cuz we didn't get up in time :( But we found a fridge. Yipppeee! Sunday Jillian spit up and there was flecks of blood in it. Of course being a first time Mom, I freaked! Bill wasn't as worried, but understood why I called the on call Dr. The Dr. said it was probably a fluke thing and if it continued call Dr. Monday to have Jillian seen. Well it didn't happen again until March 25th. I woke up in the am, fed Jillian for 20 mins. on the right side in bed. She had decided the left side wasn't good enough for her ( I started pumping that side) I sat up and was going to burp her and she spit up. This time there was quite a bit of blood. I freaked out and started crying. I was so worried. I called Bill, but he wasn't able to answer, then I called my Mom and she came right over. I guess she was pretty shook up because she grabbed the wrong purse....she didn't even have her drivers license. I called Jillians Dr's office and told the receptionist what was going on. She said she would get me a nurse and made an appointment for 2:30pm. There wasn't a nurse available, but she got the Dr. I had seen the day before ( My Dr was out of town) came on the phone and tried to calm me down and asked a few questions. So now all I had to do was wait until my appointment. It felt like forever! My mom got here and we left. When I got there the nurse and Dr I had seen the day before (I thought I had thrush, but she thought I had a Mastitis in my left breast) stopped in to say hello and to see what was going on. I love this Drs office. They are so nice and I love having a family Dr so they can treat us all. The Dr I saw today was a guy and was very nice also. Guess we are just trying to get to know all the Drs while our Dr is out of town! I joked that we needed an office in the back just to stay in until Jillian is older, so we don't have to drive there! I think knowing all the doctors is not a good thing...I think. So the doc came in and tested the blood to make sure it was blood and it tested positive. He figured it was but was making sure. He thinks Jillian has Acid reflux problem due to being very young and undeveloped. , plus I had taken Ibuprofen. It doesn't help that I am taking an antibiotic which could be giving her a tummy ache. He gave her a prescription and sent us on our way. Hopefully this time is it! Poor kid has been thru so much in a short period of time!

First Dr's visit

Wednesday March 4th

I got out of bed about 10:00 am. I let Bill sleep until 12:00 pm. I fed the baby and pumped. Jacob was home sick. Trying to keep him from the baby is so hard, but needed. He says that when he gets better he wants to sit in his rocking chair and rock the baby to sleep...awww. Gwen still has a smile from ear to ear. She is so happy the baby is a girl! I gave the baby its first bath at home. She screamed a little, but not as bad as she did at the hospital. I just love the way she smells. I put a cute little onesie on her and white pants. We headed to our Dr's appointment. We had a few questions. One of them was about Jaundice...Jillian was looking a little yellow. The Doc sent us to the hospital for a blood test. Also I asked the dr. what I could take if I got this wonderful crud Jacob has and still breast feed. I can take the same things I took when I was prego. We asked more about PT with Jillians mouth. She said to continue with her exercises and that maybe Jillian is just uncoordinated and will learn. We also still needed to call the Elks to get Jillian for her hearing test. That is a lot of stuff in the first few days of this kids life! At the Dr's office she had lost a little bit of weight, but that is normal. They gave her a shot and sent us on our way to the hospital. At the hospital they took blood and a few minutes after we got home our Dr. called letting us know that Jillians Bilirubin was a 14.7---15 is a high as they want to see it! Since she probably hasn't hit her peak our Dr. ordered a Bili-blanket for Jillian to use. It is a bright blue glowing light that she wears up the back of her outfit. She is my little "Blue Light Special!" She is supposed to have it on at all times except when she is in the bath or getting a diaper change. When we got home from the hospital I laid down with my baby girl for a nap. Dad and Gwen cleaned and Jacob was told to relax hoping he gets to feel better. My nap was wonderful. I love having her close to me! Bill said aren't you worried you will roll over on top of her. Not at all. I don't move a bit when she is next to me. I know she isn't gonna stay small forever, so I am enjoying her as much as I can. Sometimes when I hold her...I just sit and cry...not cuz I am sad...I am just so happy! When I got up from my nap, dinner was on the table. My hubby has been so helpful. I am truly blessed. He is even better than I thought he was going to be. He gets up in the night with me and has been extremely helpful. My breast pumping is getting better all the time. It is amazing how little comes out at first!

"D" Day! (delivery)

It has taken me a bit to get into the swing of things with our new addition. I am back to blogging again. I am gonna go back to and blog about how everything unfolded. I guess baby Jillian listened to my eviction notice because that was my last entry before she was born. Saturday, Feb 28th, I went to bed around 11:30 pm and woke up at 2:00 am to pee. When I got into the bathroom, I told Bill I thought my water had broke. Well it did, my shorts were soaked...fun fun! I peed a ton and we noticed that I had also lost my mucus plug. We took a shower and headed to the hospital. I called Grandma, she go up and waited to see what would happen. We got to the hospital at 3:00 am and the same nurse was on duty. At this time I was having some contractions pretty regular. They tested me numerous times to make sure my water had broke. The nurse asked "are you sure your water broke?" Well I know I didn't pee the bed! I got a little frustrated! Finally my leakage tested positive for ferning and they admitted me around 6:00 am. They took us upstairs to our delivery room. It was pretty large and had a few windows. They were monitoring my contractions and baby. They started pitocin and the contractions started coming stronger and faster. I finally had enough pain and asked for a little something. I can't remember what they gave ,but it didn't even take the edge off the pains. The problem was I wasn't dilating and progressing very fast and they wanted to up the pitocin, which makes the contractions even harder. I then asked for an epidural. The Anesthesiologist came in and prepped me for the epidural. It was very strange feeling. They put this stuff on your back and it felt like sand paper. My Mom had a hard time watching her put it in. She thought she was going to pass out. She got it in and left for a bit. When she came back in, I was still feeling everything, so she had to do it again. The second one, she said I would feel a twinge in one of my legs. I did...it was a very strange feeling. Once she had the second one in she left and came back a bit later. She asked me how I was feeling. I said "I can't feel shit!" Everyone laughed! Having the epidural in me, I was able to sleep. I was very thankful for that! They upped my pitocin. After some time I had dilated to a 5. Eventually I dilated to a 9 and they called the Dr in and he said there was someone else real close and it was a race to see who had theirs first! The other girl had more of an incentive, she had a 9 1/2lb baby! Around 2:30 pm they started to have me push, but I couldn't centralize where I needed to push from because of the epidural. So they cut the epidural, but continued to have me us. The epidural was gone by now. The head was coming out and they asked if I wanted a mirror. I said "sure" I was able to see my progress and that was really helpful. I started getting a cramp in my right leg and I kept putting my leg down and her head would go back in. Finally I decided that was more pain than the leg cramp and left my leg up! The Dr. asked if I wanted to touch her head and I did. I was pushing 3 times for every contraction and if I felt I could do a 4th I did. She was so close to coming out. BTW my Dr. was on call, but he had taken the day off and went to Denver. Dr. Archie was a great encourager, he was cheering me on! Finally I did 3 pushes and her head was out and the doc asked if I had one more in me. I pushed again and she slid right out. I think he was afraid her shoulders were gonna get stuck. He announced "Its a Girl!" My Mom yelled "I told you so, I knew it was gonna be a girl!" Right after she came out her put her on my stomach. They were cleaning her off and sucking stuff out of her. The nurse then took her to the warmer and kept cleaning her and massaging her to get her to breath better. Doc asked " Do you need my attention over there" He was sewing me up by this time and I was out of it, but my Moms heart dropped. The Doc had to give a local because I was feeling every stitch. OUCH! They weighed and measured Jillian. I got up to go to the bathroom and the nurse had Bill feed Jillian formula because her blood sugar was low (it was in the 30's...they don't like to see it below 50) They gave him a 2 oz bottle and she ate the whole thing. That was a huge amount because her stomach was only the size of a marble! We moved to our room and ordered some food...the last thing I had eaten was a peanut butter sandwich at 2:30 am! We called my Dad and he said that he cried when he found out it was a girl...awww. They moved us to our room and I asked the nurse how long they usually kept people. She said 2 nights. That night I sent the baby to the nursery. I felt terrible about it, but I knew Bill and I needed some sleep! The next am a different nurse came in and she asked if I wanted to leave. I said sure. They tried testing both of Jillian's ears, but the right one didn't pass. They will be testing at a later date. They told us it was nothing to worry about...we will wait and see. A lactation specialist came in and worked with me and breast feeding. Jillian's mouth was very tight and they sent in a physical therapist to work with it also. We had a few visitors, Becky, Nicole and her Mom (Jackie) and my parents. We went home that night around 10:00 PM

Can't sleep!

I am sooooooooooo tired! I have not been able to sleep lately! I have been waking up at 2:00am for the past few nights! It sucks! On top of having contractions....Bill and I got a bug or something and I am having stomach cramps too! Fun Fun! This morning I was at least able to go back to sleep for 2 1/2 hours.

Yesterday My Mom came , cooked and put meals in the freezer. She made 4 meals of chicken picata, 4 meals of homemade raviolis and 3 meals of homemade mac and cheese. She is such a good Mommy! I am very fortunate to have such a great Mother. Also My Hubby has been rubbing my back all the time. He is so sweet!

My poor feet! They are so freaking swollen. They used to swell during the day, but once I went to bed they would go down. Well not anymore. They look porky all the time. They are pretty sad looking.

I am still having contractions sporadically and a pain in my right side! BUT NO BABY!

Well back to Labor and Delivery!

OK OK....I didn't want to go! I am starting to think they think I am crazy down there at Labor and Delivery! BUT the Dr. on call and L and D (they gave me their number) advised me to come in. We had a pretty good day....walked down to get the kids from school and when I got home my tummy was rock hard. I figured it was just something that happens. Well I guess it can be considered stressful on the baby. I called the Doc on call and she said to lay down on my left side and if it doesn't loosen up go to L and D. I ended up taking a long bath and that still didn't help. I then called L and D and they said come in as a precaution. I made them promise they wouldn't think I was crazy! LOL We got there about 8:30 PM. They hooked me up to the monitors and started monitoring the baby and my contractions. I was still having sporadic ones. The nurse then came in and said....Ok why don't you guys go walk for an hour. We are thinking "where?" Bill was thinking downtown and I was thinking to the nearest DQ...lol We figured out before we left she meant around the building. When we got back from walking...I was hurting pretty bad. They hooked me back up and put me on my side. Well....I got the worst pain in my right side and it wouldn't go away! The Nurse that was on duty was new and hadn't seen much....so I was fun to her. When she looked at my swollen feet...she said they were "impressive!" LOL She also said that I had crappy veins because they had to put in an IV. The baby's heartbeat was all over the place and they made us wait to get it under a little more control. They offered me Demerol and phenigrin and I declined...how stupid am I! Finally at 2:30 am they let us go home. I was in quite a bit of pain and couldn't fall asleep. I finally fell asleep around 4:00 and woke at 9:45 am. It was not long enough, but I could only lay on my left side. Went back to the Dr. today and nothing has changed. I am still pregnant! Dangit!
